The reproducibility of this method was tested by 15 pathologists; an agreement was reached in 81% of the circumstances for tumor necrosis, 74% for tumor differentiation, 73% for mitotic index, and 75% for overall tumor grade, though the settlement as to histologic type was solely 61%. Although the French system relies on a balanced analysis of parameters (differentiation score, mitotic index, extent of necrosis), its principal weak point lies within the task of the differentiation rating. The differentiation score is defined as the extent to which a tumor resembles adult mesenchymal tissue (score 1), the extent to which the histologic kind is understood (score 2), or the remark that the tumor is undifferentiated (score 3).
